Rupinder Inderjit is a film and television writer. He is best known for his Punjabi film Ishq Brandy which got appreciation for its story and dialogues. The screenplay of his film Ishq Brandy is going to be included in the prestigious Oscar Library.
True to his roots Rupinder Inderjit was born in Patiala and grown up in his village Dholan, tehsil Jagraon, District Ludhiana, Punjab. He competed his schooling from Guru Hargobind Public Senior Secondary School, Sidhwan Khurd. He was very young when he read Raj Kapoor’s personal diary which is a published book. He got so inspired that he determined to be a storyteller through films. Prem Rog remains his inspiration till date. He use to watch making of Hindi films on National Television and dream about being a film maker one day. Rupinder was madly obsessed with punjabi literature especially with the works of well known punjabi poet Shiv Kumar Batalvi, who inspired him to start writing his own poems. Rupinder use to share his poems with his close friends in school who encouraged his talent. Rupinder moved to Punjab University Chandigarh for his higher education where he completed his Bachelors in Anthropology with distinction and a university gold medal. He wanted to join Film and Television Institute Pune for a direction or writing course but was placed in waiting list after he appeared for an interview. Sadly he had to return back to Punjab University Chandigarh finish his Masters in Anthropology which again he cleared with distinction and a university Gold Medal. Then he moved to Mumbai to chase his big dream. His background in Anthropology landed him a job in market research where he worked for 3 years before actually starting his writing career
His writing career started with writing dialogues for a Punjabi show for Balaji Telefilms but the show went off air before his episodes were shot. Though he was disheartened but he soon got an opportunity to work with Ram Gopal Varma who was on a look out for a new talent to write a different film. He worked closely with ram Gopal Varma for almost a year. Although the films got shelved for unfortunate reasons but Rupinder considers his stint with Ram Gopal Varma as a big learning experience in his life where he learnt how to structure his story and flesh out his characters etc. Rupinder continued writing for television and he got his TV break with Saavdhaan India for Life Ok. He also met veteran television director Anand Mahindroo and wrote a few episodes for “Dekh Bhai Dekh – 2” which is under production. During this period he met Amit Prasher who was shooting his first film Tu mera 22 main Tera 22. This is how he started writing Ishq Brandy. He is currently involved in writing dialogues for Time Machine, a TV series going to be aired on a new channel Epic.
